The most important part of your course is your lecturer. Someone who is passionate about training and about sewing, pattern-making and fashion in general.
Your lecturer, Amanda Badenhorst, has always been interested in fashion and in making clothing. Since she started making dressed for her dolls, she has had a keen interest in fashion, and also in how garments are constructed.
“Creating a pattern and making a garment that fits in three dimensions, is like magic for me. It is a form of architecture to create a three dimensional object out of a two dimensional plan.”
Amanda has a Fashion Design Qualification from the Elizabeth Galloway Fashion Design School outside Stellenbosch.
She now uses her decades of experience, combined with her formal qualification to teach adults. From absolute beginners in sewing, up to advanced skills in pattern-making.
No, our courses are not accredited. They are short, skills based courses. Where we teach you the real competencies. Until you can design and create your own clothes. This is very hands-on!
Our classes are small. Usually 4 or fewer students. Our only class that is a bit bigger (but never more than eight learners) is our Absolute Beginner Sewing Level 1 course.
If you are looking to learn some new skills in a relaxed environment, with someone who loves teaching students, then you have found the right place! We love students visiting the studio and meeting Amanda, before they decide.
